First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
1 Timothy 2:1–4
The demands of this world, and the pace at which our technology is racing, can sometimes overwhelm us, causing feelings of panic, powerlessness, and even paranoia. Is there a solution that brings life back into perspective? Yes. And God calls it prayer.
Our human sense of ineptness—we simply aren’t equal to the task of being in charge of the universe—causes us to react to pressure. So, we’ve got to release control back to God. And when we practice this on an individual level, the prayers we offer within our congregations become more effective.
Prayer isn’t some mystical entity to be attained by a few saintly little ladies in the church. Instead, it is an act of worship on the part of the created toward the Creator. Prayer is simply “talking to God” about everything that affects our lives.
Spirit of God, fall afresh on me so that I might lift my voice in petition to You.
