Have Guts

“And then, though it is against the law, I will go in to see the king. If I must die, I must die.”
Esther 4:16 NLT

Esther might have won the beauty contest in ancient Persia, but she also had guts to go with her glitz. Raised by her uncle Mordecai, a devout follower of Yahweh, she had principles that held her firm in the time of testing.

You know the story of her marriage to King Xerxes after the banishment of Queen Vashti, and of her sudden introduction to royal life. You know also of the subplot of the wicked Haman who had a rabid hatred for the Jews and who despised one Jew in particular and secretly plotted his demise. And then there was Mordecai, who worked as an official in the palace and got the intelligence report to his niece that she was the only one who could save her people from extinction. She was the only one who had access to Xerxes. Well, actually, she only had access when he summoned her. But desperate times required desperate measures, and after days of fasting, Esther dressed to the nines and walked in to catch the king’s eye and plead her case.

Of course, we know the end of the story, but she didn’t know it at the time. She was completely surrendered to whatever her fate may be. This was the moment for which she had been summoned to the kingdom.

Likewise, you are called to surrender yourself to God’s purpose. Have guts to surrender and do your part in His kingdom.

Lord, I give myself completely into Your hands. Amen.
