Playdate

“So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.”
Matthew 25:13 NLT

Jessica took her kids to the park where she met Jennifer, who was new in the neighborhood and desperate to connect with other moms. Through their initial conversation, Jessica learned that her daughter and Jennifer’s had been born within a few days of each other.

Jessica said, “Our girls are the same age. I know we don’t know each other well, but would you be up for a playdate sometime?”

“Sure!” said Jennifer, smiling.

A week later the two moms and their girls had a playdate. While their little girls ran around the playground giggling, Jessica and Jennifer got to know each other better. Jessica shared how several years earlier she had walked through a challenging season that really changed her perspective on faith and family. She told Jennifer, “After what my husband and I walked through, I couldn’t help but ask myself, ‘Am I really serious about what I believe in? Do I really know where I’m going when I die?’ ”

When was the last time you got together with a young mom or neighbor? Pray for her and ask God to open a door so that you can have a grown-up “playdate.”

Lord, I don’t know when You will return—and that’s okay. Until then, help me watch for women with whom I can share Your good news.
