He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”
John 3:2 NIV
People today are cynical about miracles. Even some Christians wonder if miracles still exist or if they are perhaps a Bible-times phenomenon and no longer part of modern-day life. Disbelief and cynicism are easy emotions. In fact, some of the Israelites felt this way even after they had witnessed many signs and wonders from God. How many miracles does it take for humanity to finally have faith? The kind of belief that doesn’t wobble like a tower of Jell-O?
If we look, we will see miracles—even daily. Miracles come in all shapes and sizes. When they do come, thank God for them. Tell others about them so that they too might be uplifted. Write them down. Memorize them and keep them close to your heart. That way, when hardships come—and they will come eventually—you can remember all that God has done for you.
Then, when the enemy of your soul comes to tempt and discourage you, you will be able to stand strong. You will keep hold of joy. You will live with victory.
Acknowledging and celebrating these wonders from God is part of a contented Christian life. What miracles will you praise God for today?
God, help me to remember that miracles still exist in my life, both big and small. Amen.
