Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”
John 6:8–9 NIV
Have you heard the expression “less is more”? Decorators have learned just a pop of color may be all that’s needed. Bakers know a dash of salt goes a long way. A writer acknowledges that decluttering her text makes it more powerful. The fewer words, the stronger the message.
Yet on a day long ago, on a hillside where Jesus fed the five thousand, these words—less is more—took on a whole new meaning.
The crowds had grown larger. The more miracles Jesus performed, the more curious people became. And so they followed Him. At times the crowds were so overpowering that Christ would gather His closest twelve and withdraw. But on this day, He taught the people and decided to feed them. All of them. He did so by multiplying one child’s small lunch! And ended up with leftovers!
Never wonder if your Savior has forgotten your need. He sees your longing just as He saw the hunger of more than five thousand gathered on that hillside. Never wonder if He’s going to come through for you. He may not do it the way you imagine, but He will provide, and it will always be His best for you.
Miracle-working Jesus, help me remember that nothing is impossible with You. Amen.
