These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
John 16:33 KJV
Why do bad things happen to good people? It is an age-old question. Sometimes we expect God to surround us with an invisible shield that keeps us from all harm and disease, all hurt and disappointment. As nice as this might sound, it is simply not how life works. Christians are not exempt from trials.
In the Gospel of John, we read that Christ told his followers to expect trouble in this world. The good news is that we do not have to face it alone. When trials come, remember that Jesus has overcome this world. Through Him, we, too, are overcomers. Draw upon the promise that through Christ you can do all things. The children’s song says it this way: “Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong. They are weak, but He is strong.”
Expect trouble, but refuse to let it defeat you. Trials strengthen our faith and our character. No one gets excited about a trial, yet we can be assured that God is still in control even when trouble comes our way
Lord Jesus, be my strength as I face trouble in this life. Walk with me. Hold my hand. Assure me that in my weakness, You are strong. Amen.
