Every Moment Has a Purpose

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.
Ecclesiastes 9:10 NIV

“Now we have one day more,” said Oxford chaplain Joseph Alleine in 1664. “Let us live well, work hard for souls, lay up much treasure in heaven this day, for we have but a few to live.” Little did he know that only four years later, at age thirty-four, his time on earth would end.

Every single moment of life is a gift. We dare not waste one. “To live is Christ,” said the apostle Paul (Philippians 1:21 KJV). Our lives were made to reflect God’s glory, not just on Sundays or mission trips or during women’s Bible study class, but in respecting our husbands and modeling decency and kindness for others. It’s in the things we say, do, and think when no one is there to give credit. It’s in the times we choose to do the right thing, even when it hurts.

Every moment has a purpose for God’s kingdom. It’s time to be zealous for righteousness in the course of everyday life, and God has promised a treasure trove awaiting us in heaven. The irony is that earthly life will also be filled with treasures—happy marriages, strong children, peace of mind, and joy unspeakable and full of glory.

God, I pray that my passion for You shows through my daily life. Put a fire in my soul that burns so bright others can see it. Amen.
