Compassionate Prayers

Jesus told [the crowd gathered in the synagogue], “A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family.”
Mark 6:4 NLT

Lisa tried to explain the Good News to her cousin Meredith. But Meredith thought Lisa was going against what she and Lisa were taught at a young age.

As a young girl, Lisa was brought up to believe in God but in a different way, a different religion, and under a different set of traditions. Now Lisa stood out like a sore thumb among her family members because she had just put her faith in Jesus Christ.

Meredith wondered, Who was this Jesus Lisa was so excited about? Had she been brainwashed?

Lisa felt disheartened as she explained her newfound faith to her family members, some of whom rejected her words and beliefs. But she knew that although she might be rejected by family, she was accepted unconditionally by her heavenly Father.

Today you might be reminded of times when you have tried to share your faith with a family member and felt rejected. Remember that Jesus understands because He had the same experience—but that didn’t stop Him from proclaiming the Good News. As you continue to share your faith, counter any rejections you receive with compassionate prayers for those you love.

Lord, help me pray for my family members who are far from You. Please help me look past their rejection and onto our Father.
