Laugh at the Days to Come

She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.
Proverbs 31:25 NIV

You mean a woman of God can laugh at the days to come? Really? Wow. Most of the world wakes up each morning under a black cloud of regret and a debilitating fear of the future. That sounds more realistic, right? To laugh at the future is hard to imagine. To see hope instead of futility? Promise in the pain? What would that kind of woman look and sound like?

Perhaps a woman of God as described in Proverbs 31 doesn’t necessarily have a lot of confidence in herself, but rather in God. Perhaps she trusts so implicitly in His divine plan and goodness that she can sleep deeply. She can wake up refreshed each morning.

And this woman of God knows some truths—that God will indeed work everything for good in her life. She knows that He is watching over her comings and goings, and nothing will befall her that He can’t handle. This earthly life is temporary and she knows that heaven is not only for real but forever. Knowing these truths all the way to her soul gives her peace and joy, and it shows in her countenance. Yes, and even in her laugh.

Jesus, help me trust in You every hour of every day, and let me be so full of peace that I too can laugh at the days to come. Amen.
