When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” he said.
Luke 7:13 NLT
A crowd followed Jesus and His disciples when they reached the village of Nain. There He noticed the funeral procession of a young man, a widow’s only son.
When Jesus saw her, He couldn’t help but be deeply touched by her grief and her dire situation. Without her asking anything of Him, He first told her not to cry and then, amazingly, brought her dead son back to life! After the boy sat up and began to talk, “Jesus gave him back to his mother” (Luke 7:15 NLT).
When you are at your wits end, when it looks like there’s no hope for you, when you find yourself walking in a daze, struck with sadness, remember this story.
Know that Jesus sees what you are going through. That His heart overflows with compassion for you.
So don’t cry or be discouraged. Don’t despair. Don’t grieve. Only believe. At the last minute, Jesus just may surprise you beyond anything you ever imagined or expected and turn your entire life around by doing the impossible.
Jesus, You never cease to amaze me. Thank You for the reminder that I need never despair. For You see what is happening in my life. I feel Your love and compassion surround me! I will not grieve—only believe.
