Serving

“You must serve only the Lord your God.”
serve only the Lord your God.” Exodus 23:25 NLT

Jesus responded to a question asked by James and John regarding service and leadership:

“You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Matthew 20:25–28 NLT

Jesus must have understood David’s heart when he said, “Love the Lord, all you godly ones! For the Lord protects those who are loyal to him, but he harshly punishes the arrogant” (Psalm 31:23 NLT).

As you go about the day, be mindful of who you are serving—Jesus Christ—and how you can serve others out of the love you have for Him. Focus on serving God and leading by His example. Doing so will be more fruitful and satisfying than anything this world has to offer.

Jesus, I need to remain connected to You by serving and leading in the ways that glorify You. May my life be an instrument—a reflection—of You.
