Make Every Day Count

Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth.
Psalm 127:4 NKJV

When a young mom dropped off her children at school each day, she would encourage them, “Hey, let’s make today count!”

Most of us realize that children are little sponges, so we get them the best educations and give them lessons in sports and music. But they are also sponges for understanding their purpose in the kingdom. While they are sopping up information, don’t forget to instill their purposes as believers. Deuteronomy 6:7 (NIV) says, “Impress [God’s principles] on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

Your children are ambassadors for Christ even as young as they are! They are exposed to a mission field at school every day and a variety of differing denominations and beliefs, even at Christian schools. Your child could lead his friends to Christ on the playground. As Jesus said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes” (Matthew 11:25 NKJV).

How are you encouraging your kids to make every day count for the Lord? How are you helping them be a light?

Lord, I pray my children embrace the light I’ve given them and that they boldly bring the candle in the darkness wherever they go. Amen.
