“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9 NLT
One can be a lonely number. And sometimes that’s how we feel. Totally abandoned. Lost. Alone. It comes on the heels of divorce, death, widowhood, or separation. Sometimes the feeling of loneliness can come upon us when we’re surrounded by people, even friends and family members! Or it may strike in the midst of misfortune, when we imagine no one has ever gone through what we’re going through. The point is that it’s true! We’re each unique, having different experiences in our upbringing, environment, relationships, desires, goals, and thoughts.
But if you believe you are all alone in this world, you are believing in a lie. Because with God, you are never alone. He is with you no matter where you go. Although you may not be able to touch Him physically, you know deep down that He exists. You know that He is real—and that when you reach out for Him with your entire heart, mind, soul, and strength, your spirit will meld with His and you will experience an amazing joy, one that cannot be expressed with words. So take heart. Be strong and courageous. Leave fear and discouragement behind. God’s with you. And He’ll never let you go!
I’m feeling very alone today, Lord. Help me get out of this funk. Sweep me into Your presence. Fill me with Your strength. Sit beside me, hold me, love me. With You in my life, I need never be alone. Amen.
