“The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.”
Isaiah 58:11 NIV
The county restrictions allowed for watering only twice a week. It just wasn’t enough. Her carefully tended acre—once lush, green, and profuse with color and variety—was now brown and crunchy underfoot. The blooms hung limp, pale, and dehydrated. She couldn’t ignore the living word picture this was to her own spiritual life. For months now, she’d actually only watered her spirit with Sunday morning sermons. She, too, felt lifeless and dried up from the stresses that weighed on her—too many demands, the urgent bumping out the important, a frenzied sprint from place to place, poor nutrition from grabbing unhealthy foods on the run, no margin to properly rest or enjoy life.
She needed a downpour of God’s Word and the Holy Spirit’s presence in her parched spirit. Not an occasional sprinkle but a soul soaking to replenish her frazzled body and weary mind. She knew this soaking came from consistent Bible study, the necessary pruning of confessed sin, and prayer time. These produce a well-watered garden, fruitful and lush, mirroring God’s beauty, creating a life to which others are drawn to come and linger in His refreshing presence.
Eternal Father, strengthen my frame, guide my paths, and satisfy my needs as only You can. Make my life a well-watered garden, fruitful for You and Your purposes. Amen.
