God said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh saying, ‘Me? Have a baby? An old woman like me?’ Is anything too hard for God? I’ll be back about this time next year and Sarah will have a baby.”
Genesis 18:13–14 MSG
God’s promises can seem outlandish to us at times. Usually it’s because we’re looking at the facts, and when we take the facts of our circumstances and line them up next to God’s promises, we begin to doubt the impossible.
Sarah faced the same quandary when God told her husband, Abraham, that he and she would have a son. Sarah, overhearing the conversation, began laughing because she was well past childbearing age. She couldn’t even conceive of conceiving a child. It seemed physically impossible, especially because Abraham was an old man himself. And once past conception, she’d need strength for pregnancy and childbirth! Then there’s the nursing, weaning, and rearing! On top of all this, she had been wishing for a baby her entire life—that’s ninety years! How could this be? So, with all those facts stacked up against her faith, she laughed!
But there is nothing too hard or too wonderful for the Lord. He can do anything and everything if we have faith, believing God to keep His word, to do the impossible. What specific promise has God made to you? Do you have the faith, regardless of facts, to believe Him?
Dear Lord, I’m taking Your promises as fact regardless of what my situation looks like. There is nothing too hard for You. Thank You for being Lord of the impossible! Amen!
