The Rest Will Fall Into Place

“How much more valuable you are than birds!”
Luke 12:24 NIV

Busy birds! Watch them for long in spring and you can see the products of their industry take shape over a few hours. They flit back and forth—building houses for their offspring-to-be. A twig there, a piece of string here. They never seem to stop and fret. They don’t pull out their pocketbooks and count their savings. They just keep going about the business God has created them to do.

We can learn a lot from watching birds. Over time, humans have accelerated their lives to a breakneck pace and have set goals for which God never meant them to live—making money, retiring well, getting the “most” (meaning the most popular or most desired) out of life.

It’s not that it’s a bad thing to make plans—it’s just a stifling thing to live for those plans. God wants you instead to keep going about the business He has created you to do—to love one another, to tell others about Jesus, and to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. To seek His kingdom first, and then all the rest will fall into place. That is His promise! And if this God of yours, who created such beautiful little feathered creatures, sees fit to take care of their needs, do you really believe He will neglect yours?

Father God, teach me to avoid fretting about tomorrow. Amen.
