“And in his place a despicable person will arise, on whom the honor of kingship has not been conferred, but he will come in a time of tranquility and seize the kingdom by intrigue. And the
overflowing forces will be flooded away before him and shattered, and also the prince of the covenant. And after an alliance is made with him he will practice deception, and he will go up and gain power with a small force of people. In a time of tranquility he will enter the richest parts of the realm, and he will accomplish what his fathers never did, nor his ancestors; he will distribute plunder, booty, and possessions among them, and he will devise his schemes against strongholds, but only for a time.”
Daniel 11:21–24
The antichrist is a real person who will one day deviously slither onto the scene right on cue. He will appear indispensable at a time of worldwide, unsolvable chaos. His allies will be the foes of God.
His deception will be so great that people will fail to see his face of evil until “the abomination of desolation” takes place (Matthew 24:15). Three and one-half years after he comes on the scene, the antichrist will enter the rebuilt temple in Jerusalem. Then, he will declare himself god and demand worship and allegiance from the world. Jesus Himself warned the Jews about this diabolical person, telling them that when they saw him to “ ‘let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains’ ” (Mark 13:14).
Lord, compel me with new urgency to study Your powerful Word, that I might bring it to others.
