Peter, suddenly bold, said, “Master, if it’s really you, call me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come ahead.” Jumping out of the boat, Peter walked on the water to Jesus. But when he looked down at the waves churning beneath his feet, he lost his nerve and started to sink. He cried, “Master, save me!”
Matthew 14:28–30 MSG
Have you ever been hopeful about something—like getting a position you have applied for or the house you have put an offer on—but then couldn’t seem to shake that sinking feeling?
Perhaps you were simply overthinking the situation, running dozens of what-ifs over in your mind. Or perhaps, even though you may have believed God had given you an opportunity and you were semiconfident it would all work out, you just didn’t want to be disappointed.
No matter what the cause, when you do get that sinking feeling, remember that God will not disappoint. He opened the door and you walked through. So trust Him and ask Him to help you let go of that sinking feeling.
Pray about it. And exchange your what-ifs for His Word.
Lord, when that sinking feeling tries to attach itself to me, I will remember I don’t have to fight it on my own. Instead, I will come to You in prayer, hold on to Your Word, and be buoyed by Your promises.
