And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day. . . . The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
Exodus 14:13–14 KJV
The Children of Israel enjoyed a triumphant exodus from Egypt, but danger soon overtook them. After journeying for only a short time, they looked up to see Pharaoh and his army marching toward them. They were afraid and immediately started making accusations against Moses, claiming he had brought them to the wilderness to die. They said they would have been better off staying in Egypt. But Moses encouraged them not to be afraid. They were to stand still. The Lord, their God, would fight for them. They were to hold their peace.
Are you facing an enemy? Do you feel afraid of impending danger? Moses told the people to do four things: fear not, stand still, see the salvation of the Lord, and hold your peace. The Children of Israel experienced a great victory that day. God parted the waters of the Red Sea so they could cross over on dry ground, then He allowed that same water to drown the Egyptian army. Moses’ advice is good for us also. We can put our trust in God without fear and wait for God to do battle for us. Whatever is coming toward you, God can handle it.
Lord, help me to stand still and wait for You to work on my behalf. Amen.
