Restore the World

“You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Acts 1:8 NKJV

The forgotten glory of Israel was on the disciples’ minds when Jesus preached about the kingdom of God. They were expecting Him to restore Israel’s political power and to drive out the Romans from the land, so after His resurrection, they asked if the time was now. But Jesus’ answer surprised them all. Instead of a timeline, Jesus gave them a charge that opened up the doors for the Gentiles to become a part of God’s people: Equipped by the power by the Holy Spirit, the disciples would spread the word about Him to the ends of the earth.

The disciples’ charge and promise is also yours. You may feel powerless when you see the brokenness in your community, but you are not; God has given you His Spirit to empower your work in His plan to restore the world, and He has prepared the work for you to do (see Ephesians 2:10). As you lean on His power to serve your community, ask Him to give you wisdom and courage to bear witness to His hope to everyone around you—with your words, your hands, your life.

Father, I want to give Your hope to my community! Show me my part in Your plan to bring restoration.
