And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

“God won’t give me more than I can handle.” You hear this phrase a lot. Is it true? Does the Bible say this?
The origin of this phrase is 1 Corinthians 10:13, which is actually dealing with the idea of temptation and says that God “will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it” (NKJV).
Sadly, this verse is used by many who do not know Christ but who find some measure of mental comfort in the idea that, no matter what they are experiencing, even if it is the consequences of sinful choices, God is not allowing them to bear too much. This just isn’t so. Proverbs 13:15 (kjv) declares that “the way of transgressors is hard.” The crushing consequences of sin will break you and cast you aside.
Only the ones who are following Christ can lay claim to the promise that God will work all things together for good. Therefore, those who trust and obey can rest in the assurance that everything (the good and the bad) fits together in the pattern He has laid out for them.
Lord, thank You for helping me bear my burdens and for keeping track of the things in my life. I know You are working all things for my good. In Jesus’ name, amen.
