For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods.
Psalm 96:4 NKJV
When the widow’s son was brought back to life, she declared to Elijah, “Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is the truth” (1 Kings 17:24 NKJV).
It’s interesting that she didn’t say this after Elijah showed her the miracle of the flour and oil. Perhaps she’d wondered, Was that really the God of Israel who rescued us from starving? Maybe it was one of the local gods. But she put her full trust in Jehovah when her son was restored; no other god could reverse death’s curse.
Maybe pain is running rampant in your life or you are looking at what’s happening in the world and wondering where God is. But He’s here, and He’s powerful—the God who brought the widow’s boy back from the dead also raised your Savior. . .and resurrected your heart to new life.
When doubt strikes and death seems triumphant, immerse yourself in His truth. Don’t fear your doubt, for God doesn’t; abiding in Christ sometimes looks more like clawing to catch hold of Him. Seek Him; He will show you the truth the widow knew—that He is present and mighty—and fill your heart with what it needs.
Father, thank You that You will help me when doubt strikes. I trust you and surrender all to you.
