From Day One

From birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother’s womb. I will ever praise you.
Psalm 71:6 NIV

There’s something wonderfully strange about holding a newborn baby. To know that inside that floppy, wriggly little body is all the makings of a grown human. To look into those eyes and wonder about what questions are being asked, what observations are being made, what words are being learned. There’s so much strength and yet so much weakness wrapped up in this tiny bundle.

And from the moment the baby comes out of the womb—gasping for breath and rooting for food—that child is dependent on adult hands to care for her or him.

From the moment you were born (and even before that), whether you know it or not, you began relying on God every minute of your life. He gave you the parents you have. He knitted your body into the particular shape it would be, along with molding your particular set of abilities and challenges.

So praise Him today for being there for you from day one. Praise Him for providing capable hands to care for you. Praise Him for making you who you are today!

God, I praise You for making me, me. Amen.
