For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.
Ephesians 5:8–10 NIV
Genesis 1 tells us that God created the heavens and the earth. But all of that was without form—empty and dark. So the Spirit of God, hovering over the waters, decided to make light—and from that, built the entire world. And He saw that that light was good.
Our God is one who transforms people as well as worlds. The apostle Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians, tells his readers that they were all once in darkness. But now they are “light in the Lord.” And God sees that as good. Very good.
The transformation that changed you from darkness to light is no less dramatic than what your Creator God did in transforming this world. You are a new creature. Live like a new creature. Give up any ties with the dark, and please God instead. For He is your source of abundant life, joy, peace, and love.
Determine to live each day in the light. Seek God in scripture and in prayer. Thank Him for His gifts. Praise Him for being a great God who transforms. Enjoy life in the light.
God, help me live as a child of light and be drawn to the best of what is good, right, and true. Amen.
