Live in the Light

“This is the way God works. Over and over again He pulls our souls back from certain destruction so we’ll see the light—and live in the light!”
Job 33:29–30 MSG

Upon experiencing the unexpected death of a loved one, you may go through a sort of numbness. But eventually you will begin to feel again—possibly hurt, anger, bitterness, and deep grief. The cold emptiness of your life may reflect what you feel in your heart. Your loved one’s absence sucks all the warmth and light out of you.

Although your phone rings, you ignore it. You don’t want to talk to anyone. You haven’t really even talked to God but know you need to. And you sense it’s time to open up and invite God into your grief. So even though you may not feel like it, you begin to pray: “God, I need you. I feel like I died, too. I need to feel alive again.”

Suddenly a warm, bright light fills the room. You feel God’s presence and His peace surround you. You feel a surge of strength and know that God is with you. He will help you begin again. He will pull your soul back from the darkness and bring you back into the light.

God, I have hurts and have experienced loss. It’s easy to isolate myself and pull away from You. But I need You. I invite You to shed Your light on my hurts and heal my brokenness.
