How to Fix a Bad Day

This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24 NASB

Have you ever wondered how a perfectly good day can get so messed up?

The answer can usually be laid down to human behavior. All it takes is a sharp word to a family member or an unhelpful attitude or unkind action and the situation quickly degenerates. Personal failure has odd tentacles. The guilty feeling from knowing the problem was self-instigated fosters a desire to shift the blame and then in the end leads to self-incriminating despair at again being the cause of strife.

Human relationships, while having the strength to withstand much trauma, are remarkably fragile when it comes to insult. Friends and spouses and children can be hurt greatly when we are careless with our words and attitudes. So how do we fix the day?

We can turn to our God who is the essence of redemption. Since He sent Jesus to redeem our souls, He is able also to redeem even the smallest earthly concern. So coming to Him for mercy is the first step in righting the wrong. Exchanging our failure for His grace reminds us that all is not lost. The day is His, after all, and He offers the hope we need to live it through to the end.

Father God, thank You for Your abundant mercy and constant grace and showing me how to fix a bad day. Redeem my failures today and help me not to repeat them. In Jesus’ name, amen.
