You Weren’t Created to Be Timid

For the Spirit that God has given us does not make us timid; instead, his Spirit fills us with power, love, and self-control.
2 Timothy 1:7 GNT

When God created you, He didn’t make you to be fearful. You weren’t designed to be cowardly or apprehensive. You weren’t created to be timid. He didn’t intend for you to choose panic over peace or trepidation over tranquility. Instead, His Spirit empowers you with amazing attributes—things like power, love, and self-control. All these decidedly trump any fear that may creep into your heart.

Keep this truth in mind, because it’s a game changer. In those times when your courage is waning, it’s important to remember that fear isn’t from God. And once you recognize it, ask the Lord to fill you with bold confidence. Ask for grit. Ask Him to clear your head of lies and replace them with truth. Tell Him exactly what you need to withstand the situation at hand, or if you don’t know, simply ask for His help. Pressing into your faith shows courage, and it delights Him!

Dear God, sometimes feeling courageous seems impossible. There are too many things that scare me. There are situations where I feel intimidated and unable to conquer. But I need to remember the Holy Spirit’s promise to fill me with all I need to be brave and to stand in that truth. Thank you for giving me a spirit of power, love, and self-control. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
