Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.
Proverbs 31:8 NIV
Knowing when to speak up on someone else’s behalf and knowing when to be silent can get pretty complicated, because when it comes to people and their multitude of problems, nothing is ever cookie-cutter easy. When this Proverb was written, advice to a king, the ancient culture was very different from today’s, and yet the biblical concept of what is considered good and right is still very much the same. Large numbers of people continue to be poor and powerless—and they still need your help.
There are many examples of what you can do, but one idea might be to vote for those in authority who would be willing to create legislation that supports this scripture. To help people who are vulnerable, needy and powerless, to help themselves.
Sometimes you can feel overwhelmed by all the world’s needs. You may ask, “What can I do? I’m just one voice.” But with God’s help, even that one voice can change the world.
Ask the Lord for direction. Show Him your heart—that you would like to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.
Dear God, please guide me today. Tell me what we can do together to fulfill this scripture. Amen.
