Walk in Wisdom

Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.
Proverbs 28:26 NIV

People tend to think of themselves as intelligent beings—full of insight and understanding, especially if they have acquired academic degrees and accolades. They like to think they can make it on their own. That they are a powerhouse of strength and a font of sound judgment. That they can breeze through life fueled by their own wit and wisdom. People love to say, “I did it my way.”

This kind of thinking is folly and anything but wise.

We do need assistance. We need counsel from godly men and women, and most of all we need help from the ultimate guide—whose name is Jesus.

How have you chosen to live your life? Do you tread lightly, knowing you are fallible and fallen and in need of the Lord’s daily guidance? Or do you bulldoze forward no matter what, confident that you’ll make it in your own understanding? Proverbs 3:6 (NKJV) instructs, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” What a promise. What relief!

In the end, that is the essence of true wisdom—to say, “I did it God’s way.”

Lord Jesus, help me to realize I can’t make it on my own in this life. I need You every hour of every day. Please direct my paths. Amen.

  1. Sometimes I feel I don’t like asking for help. Sometimes pride gets in the way. But one thing I have learned is to truly depend on God fully. He is my help.
