The Light of the Lord

Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.
Psalm 97:11 KJV

If you live in the northern hemisphere, the days of the year dance from short to long, then back again. This journey of lengthening daylight culminates in today, the first day of summer, the most light-filled day of the year.

Though you are used to the changeability of everything on this earth, the light of the Lord does not fade, and what a promise that is! The Amplified Bible says light is “strewn along” the “pathway” of the righteous—that through the suffering and pain of a broken world, the way for God’s people is lit with truth and joy, “the irrepressible joy which comes from consciousness of His favor and protection” (Psalm 97:11 AMPC).

Until heaven comes and God’s light fills the Holy City, making the sun and moon obsolete (see Revelation 22:3, 5), be confident that Jesus, the Light of the World, is lighting your way; as you spend time in the Word and prayer, He will help you cultivate joy in the midst of uncertain bends in the path. As the season of summer blooms—months of bustle and fruitfulness, of gardens and relationships growing in the sunshine—may you reap a harvest of irrepressible joy as you grow closer with your faithful God who lights your pathway through any darkness, through any valley (see Psalm 23:4).

Father, fill me with Jesus’ joy so I may shine just as brightly!
