Mirror Image

Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves’ eyes.
Song of Solomon 1:15 KJV

Getting up in the morning and looking in the mirror can be tough. The glass reflects back our exact image with all the blemishes in plain sight. In our eyes, the flaws stand out. Instead of seeing any beauty, we focus on the imperfections. The longer we consider them, the more pronounced they become. Before long, we see only ugliness in ourselves.

No matter how hard we try, when the focus is on self, we see shortcomings. Beauty treatments, plastic surgery, makeup, beautiful clothing—nothing helps. There is no way to cover the flaws we see. Our outlook even affects how others view us.

Our only hope is to see ourselves through a different mirror. We must remember that as we grow as Christians we take on the characteristics of Christ. The more we become like Him, the more beautiful we are in our own eyes and to those around us.

When God looks at us as Christians, He sees the reflection of Christ. He sees us as very beautiful. God loves to behold us when we are covered in Christ. The mirror image He sees has none of the blemishes or imperfections, only the beauty.

Oh God, thank You for beholding me as being fair and valuable. Help me to see myself through Your eyes. Amen.
