Hope in Him

“I will come to you and fulfill my good promise. . . . For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:10–11 NIV

Hope is beautiful. At times you see it, shining and bright, dancing ahead of you, making your steps lighter and forming a smile on your lips. These are the times when a new home, tiny new baby, or a new job fill you with expectation.

Other times, although hope may not seem apparent, it is still present. This is when you may be chilled deeply by grief, having lost a relationship, parent, or long-held dream. This is when the warmth of hope, like a well-worn quilt made by loving hands, God’s hands, can be pulled around your shoulders, and you can rest under its comforting weight, snuggling up to the knowledge that one day you will again “see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living” (Psalm 27:13 NIV).

God declares hope over, around, and through you. He has prepared a future for you and has plans for your well-being. A powerful as well as personal being, God doesn’t give you someone else’s future. He has made one just for you. Allow your heart to hope in Him and whatever future He has planned.

Father God, I thank and trust You for the future You have planned for me. Please make my hope a constant, in good times and bad. Amen.
