“Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
Luke 21:3–4 NIV
Have you ever given someone a gift anonymously? Doing so brings a special kind of joy. Knowing that the recipient received a blessing and that no credit was necessary is fun. The gift was just a blessing from God that you had the privilege of delivering!
Your Lord loves a cheerful giver! He sees not just the gift but the heart of the giver. When the widow in this story from Luke 21 gave her last coin, Jesus declared her gift the most precious of all. It was of very little value in the marketplace, but in God’s economy, it was greater than all the other offerings presented at the temple that day. It was all she had left to live on, and she chose to give it to God sacrificially and cheerfully.
Give from a thankful heart. Give generously and often. In doing so, you will please God.
Dear God, help me be a cheerful giver. I trust You to provide for me all the days of my life. Your Word tells me to test You in my tithe [see Malachi 3:10]. I do so now, knowing I will always find You faithful. Amen.
