“Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again.”
Exodus 14:13 NLT
Sharon was confused. Doubts and fears assailed her mind. Lord, I think I’ve bitten off more than I can chew. Now I’m out here, in the middle of nowhere, ready to give up.
Her confidence waning, Sharon cried out to God. Then, reaching for her Bible, she opened to where she’d last left off reading in Exodus, where the Israelites were running from Pharaoh.
The hard-hearted pharaoh thought he had a good chance to bring his slaves back to him. He figured that the Israelites, hemmed in by the desert, would be wandering around the land in confusion.
Indeed, the Israelites had gone out of Egypt with boldness. Yet when trapped by the sea, they became discouraged and frightened. But while at a literal standstill, they called out to God and He became a shield for them, using a cloud in front and behind them and the walls of the sea on either side. And after going through the sea on dry land, God’s people never saw those Egyptians again.
When you become bewildered and petrified with fear, “don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today,” because the problems, frustrations, and barriers you see today will never be seen again. Be persistent, and God will see you through.
Lord, be my shield. Surround me with Your presence. Help me to keep still in this situation and watch You see me through it. And I will praise You forever and ever, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
