Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Galatians 6:9 NIV
Theologian John Owen wrote, “For the most part we [Christians] live upon successes, not promises—unless we see and feel the print of victories, we will not believe.”
The Christian walk is about faith. Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV) describes it as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Faith is trusting God to keep His promises, even while we wait.
It’s easy to depend on God when all is well, but hard times may cause us to doubt whether God really is good. However, if you cling to God’s promises, you will experience tremendous growth. Grapes don’t grow overnight. They slowly ripen, attached to the vine for sustenance. Likewise, Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit” (John 15:5 NIV).
In the Old Testament, God called David to the throne, but King Saul refused to abdicate and attempted to kill his successor. David had many opportunities to kill Saul, but spared him because he trusted God. David wrote, “Indeed, none of those who wait for You will be ashamed” (Psalm 25:3 NASB).
No matter what you’re facing, sustain yourself in the Word and in prayer. Trust that God will bring you through this season, and don’t give up. In God’s time, He will deliver you.
God, give me wisdom as I wait for You to carry out Your will, and peace knowing that You will work it out for my good.
