Stand in the Gap

“I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none.”
Ezekiel 22:30 NIV

Each prayer request you offer up to God is important to you, and when you ask others to pray, you’re counting on them to help carry you through the tough times.

Do you give the same consideration to those who ask you for prayer? It’s easy in the busyness of life to overlook a request someone else has made. Maybe you don’t know the person very well or you don’t really have an understanding of what he or she is going through. Perhaps the request came in an e-mail that you quickly glanced at and then deleted. Yet even with e-mailed prayer requests, others trust you to stand in the gap for them during difficult times in their lives.

Don’t delay. Take time right when you receive a request to talk to the Lord on the requester’s behalf. Be the bridge that carries that person through the valley of darkness back to the mountaintop of joy.

Heavenly Father, help me to have a heart of compassion for those I know and even for those I don’t know who need Your comfort and love. Help me never to be too busy to pray for them. Amen.

  1. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to hear this message. Prayer has not been something I have prioritized and needed guidance, or the reminder, or the encouragement to change my priorities. I have a question for the group – Is there a difference in having a conversation with Jesus and prayer?
