Letting Go

Every day he walked back and forth near the courtyard of the harem to find out how Esther was and what was happening to her.
Esther 2:11 NIV

Are you guilty? Have you been the kind of parent, guardian, grandparent, or friend who hovers? You always have a piece of your mind and heart engaged in wondering how and what your children are doing. You can’t help it!

Letting go is hard. Mordecai knew this. He had raised his cousin Esther as his own daughter after her parents died. Then this daughter was taken to the king’s palace as a new queen candidate. But this wasn’t just any beauty pageant. If the king did not like Esther, she could be thrown out, or worse. And her Jewish background made her status all the more uncertain. It’s no wonder Mordecai paced outside the courtyard, hoping to glean some bit of information. He had told Esther to keep her background quiet, but would she?

So many times, those who raise children have moments of letting go, from those first baby steps to sending them off into the world. It’s in those moments you have to trust that the God who loves you knows how to love your children, too—even better than you do. He had a plan for Esther—and He will have a plan for your kids, too.

God, thank You for loving my children better than I ever could. Amen.
