“The foundations of law and order have collapsed. What can the righteous do?”
Psalm 11:3 NLT
Somehow the psalmist from thousands of years ago has voiced the thoughts of many who live today—many who see the shootings and murders and abuse and wars humans perpetrate on one another, and wonder, Why is this happening? What can we do to stop it?
Humans will always be humans. We are flawed creatures—products of the Fall—living in a broken world. We will always find ways to hurt each other, and justifications to do it. But even when it seems law and order has been abandoned, and peace is far away, the righteous can do one thing. They can trust God. Because no matter what, “the Lord is in his holy Temple; the Lord still rules from heaven” (Psalm 11:4 NLT).
We won’t always be able to figure out how God will take control. We won’t always be the instruments to bring about peace. But we can trust that the God who sees the hearts of men and women will be able to find a way to communicate with us. And because we trust Him, we can be confident that His way is the best one to follow—the only way that will lead to eternal life and eternal peace.
Lord, I know I don’t have the answers to my own questions. Help me to live in a way that shows my trust in You. Amen.
