God’s Promises

Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.
Joshua 21:45 NIV

When was the last time you broke a promise? If you are like most people, it does happen from time to time, and undoubtedly more often than you would like.

Sometimes, it’s very hard to keep promises. Circumstances interfere. People, places, times, and availability change. You can’t control all the factors, and so that promise you made suddenly slips out of your hands.

But God’s promises are not like yours. He does not make promises that He cannot keep. And He keeps every promise that comes from His lips.

Do you know what promises God has made to you? Read His Word. Search for the promises of love and compassion, forgiveness and grace, reward and suffering. For He does not just promise good things will come. He also tells you that you will have trouble. You will be tempted. You will suffer for His name. But like the Israelites who had struggled for so long and spent so much time fighting their way into the Promised Land, you will also find rest on every side. If you stay with Him, He will rescue you and bring you to a land of peace. It’s a promise.

God, I want to remember Your promises. Help me keep my word, too. Amen.
