A Crown of Glory

The silver-haired head is a crown of glory, if it is found in the way of righteousness.
Proverbs 16:31 NKJV

One of the indicators of whether a culture will survive is the degree of value it places on its older generation. Those who have lived long and experienced much have great wisdom to share. They are of inestimable value to those who follow.

In the twenty-first century, people are living longer and longer. Retirement is no longer the downward slope to the grave but the beginning of an exciting new era for many. Modern medicine has made it possible for people to defeat major illness and debilitating conditions and still enjoy some very full years of life. And because of this, senior citizens are still very much part of the public scene. Many of them continue working a regular or part-time job, while still others volunteer at a hospital or library or some other place that can use their cheery smiles and good-natured spirits.

Life is beautiful in all its seasons, and when we recognize and celebrate that fact, there is great benefit. So today, thank a senior citizen you know for how he or she is making the world a better place.

Dear God, I ask Your blessing on the senior citizen generation. Draw them into relationship with You and provide for their needs. In Jesus’ name, amen.
